May 2000 was the beginning of my career in Journalism. I was was 22, fresh out of college and has no idea what I was getting myself into. As exciting as it is to be a journalist, in a small town it can also be very stressful. Port Hope isn’t your average small town either. It’s home to the world’s largest clean up of Low-Level Radioactive Waste. It’s also one of the Prettiest towns in Ontario and a tourist destination for many Torontonians. It’s a special place and after writing out Port Hope for eight years it will always be my home away from home. Because the internet barely existed nearly 20 years ago most of my stories for this publication cannot be found online. The few that I’ve added here are what I’ve managed to save and will hopefully be able to add more following a trip to the Port Hope Public Library sometime in the future.
